Our Opportunity

Location: Hedland Operations – Port Hedland (on the traditional lands of the Kariyarra people)


Roster: 8 days on / 6 days off (FIFO ex-Perth or Residential)

 

Fortescue’s Hedland Operations sit proudly on the traditional lands of the Kariyarra people. At our Anderson Point Port Facility, we’re driving projects that keep our operations running safely, efficiently, and sustainably.

 

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Mechanical Project professional to take ownership of the planning and delivery of mechanical projects across a high-performing operation. You’ll be part of a supportive, collaborative team, working closely with Maintenance and Engineering Reliability to bring projects from concept to completion.

Key Responsibilities

  • Taking projects from initial scoping through to safe execution and close-out
  • Building scopes of work, schedules, cost estimates, and timelines
  • Managing early engineering requirements and stakeholder engagement
  • Leading tendering processes, vendor engagement, and procurement of long-lead items
  • Overseeing execution (both online and offline) and flexing roster during shutdowns
  • Tracking budgets, reforecasting, and working closely with cost controllers
  • Ensuring compliance with Fortescue’s frameworks, work management, and safety procedures
  • Identifying improvement opportunities and driving efficiency in project delivery

Qualifications and Experience

  • 2–5 years’ experience in mining/heavy industrial environments
  • 2–5 years’ experience in project management
  • Mechanical Trade Certificate or Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering
  • Strong working knowledge of SAP (preferred) and Microsoft Office (essential)
  • Clear communicator with strong leadership skills and the ability to positively influence teams
  • A safety-first mindset, with experience conducting field interactions and promoting safe work practices
