Resource Definition Senior Geologist
Our Opportunity
Work Location: Fortescue’s Eliwana mine is located on the traditional lands of the Puutu Kunti Kurrama people.
Roster: 8D6R FIFO - Thursday to Thursday
An opportunity exists to join the Eliwana Resource Definition team as a Senior Geologist. This role requires a highly process driven person, with a strong background in leadership and a sound understanding of reverse circulation drilling processes and procedures.
Reporting to the Eliwana Resource Definition Superintendent, the Senior Geologist will be responsible for leading a team of geologists ensuring the safe and timely delivery of various drilling programs.
A successful candidate will be someone who fosters and maintains a strong and enthusiastic workplace culture as well as promoting growth and development of team members.
Key Responsibilities
- Adhere to Fortescue’s vision and values
- Maintain a strong field presence and leadership promoting safe work practices to contracting partners and FMG staff with the support of the drill compliance and the HSES teams.
- Develop, plan and manage the drilling and earthworks schedules to provide timely data for model generation required by the different planning teams (2YP, 10YP and LOM)
- Liaise with different stakeholders (resource estimation, mining, mine planning, QAQC etc., site and Perth based) to ensure works are completed as efficiently as possible
- Coordinate the activities in carrying out the daily, weekly, monthly and quarterly work plans and ensure that they are consistently aligned with meeting operational targets
- Supervise logging, sampling and validation of RC programs
- Drive ongoing operations and geological improvements and technical upskilling of geology team
- Support the Superintendent in meeting company objectives
Qualifications and Experience
- Enthusiastic person seeking to develop their career in a world class company with a passion for innovation and technical excellence
- Tertiary qualification in Geology
- Proven experience in a leadership position
- Solid understanding of RC drilling, QAQC and the risks associated with earthworks and drilling activities in remote areas of the Pilbara
- Competent with Vulcan, ArcGIS and acQuire. Leapfrog is favourable
- Excellent communication, leadership and interpersonal skills
- Experience with contractor management, project planning and execution
- Class C manual WA driver’s licence
