Work Location: Port Hedland - Fortescue’s Hedland Operations are located on the traditional lands of the Kariyarra people.

 

Roster: 8D6R - residential in Port Hedland or potential for FIFO to Perth.

Join Fortescue’s dynamic Port Operations team in a critical safety-focused role. As a Permit Officer, you’ll ensure all isolation and permit-to-work systems are rigorously maintained and compliant—keeping our people and equipment safe and our operations running smoothly.

Whether you're based in Port Hedland or commuting FIFO from Perth, this role offers a unique chance to contribute to major shutdowns and daily operations in one of the world’s most advanced mining environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct inspections across the Port to validate isolation integrity and permit compliance.

  • Develop, coordinate and implement detailed isolation and permitting plans for both routine and shutdown work.

  • Lead auditing efforts across electrical and mechanical isolations to ensure full compliance with Fortescue’s Safety Systems and Procedures.

  • Support the permit team by providing guidance, reviews and upskilling opportunities.

  • Work closely with maintenance, operations, and shutdown teams to ensure alignment on isolation and permit needs.

  • Participate in night shift coverage during shutdowns, as required.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Trade qualification (Electrical highly regarded).

  • Solid background in permitting and isolations within the mining or heavy industry sectors.

  • Previous leadership or mentoring experience is a plus.

  • Strong systems knowledge—Intellipermit and/or SAP experience highly regarded.

  • A keen eye for detail, solid computer skills, and a passion for safety.

  • Comfortable working autonomously and as part of a fast-paced, high-performance team.

  • Experience within a fixed plant environment is advantageous.
