Control Systems Engineer
Our Opportunity
Work Location: Hedland Operations
- Fortescue’s Hedland Operations are located on the traditional lands of the Kariyarra people.
Roster: 8 days/6 off Residential Port Hedland or FIFO ex Perth
We are currently seeking a motivated and experienced Process Control Engineer to join our Port Hedland Operations. You will be supported by a team of experts and be responsible for design, integration and improvements within the control system.
Key Responsibilities
- Anticipate & proactively resolve potential problems to ensure a zero-harm environment through design/ formulation of technical solutions
- Liaise with relevant departments to provide technical solutions for operational support and projects
- Build co-operative relationships to design new equipment and/or systems in conjunction with internal & external experts
- Design and develop new control systems including testing, maintaining and modifying existing systems to ensure optimal utilisation
- Commissioning of drives, instrumentation, and miscellaneous field devices
- Support the ongoing maintenance of control systems assets including PLCs, servers, network and communication equipment, and field devices
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and industry standards for process control systems
Qualifications and Experience
- Tertiary Qualifications in Engineering (Electrical, Mechatronic, or similar)
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in control systems engineering within the mining or heavy industry.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and projects simultaneously while maintaining a high level of attention to detail and quality.
- Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills, with the ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with individuals from diverse backgrounds and disciplines.
- Proficiency in programming languages such as PLC (GE, Schneider preferred), SCADA (Cimplicity preferred) and HMI systems.
- Proficiency in control system design and advanced Profibus/Profinet diagnostics skills are essential.
- Experience with software tools for data analysis, simulation, and modelling
- Experience with ABB and Siemens Variable Speed Drives (VSD) is highly desirable.
- Working knowledge of engineering design and operation principles applicable to the fields of electrical and instrumentation engineering for process plants including stackers, reclaimers, shiploaders and car dumpers
- Exceptional computer literacy is a prerequisite for this role. Familiarity with programming languages such as SQL or similar is advantageous.
- TUV Functional Safety Certified Engineer is considered highly desirable.
