An opportunity has arisen for a Legal Counsel to join the Legal department in a rapidly expanding and exciting work environment.

About the role

To provide high-quality, proactive, pragmatic and commercial legal advice to Fortescue Zero, with a focus on the Motorsport and Digital business units as part of the Fortescue Zero legal team in the UK, but with flexibility to support other areas as required, and as the business evolves and matures. 

What you will do

  • Drafting, reviewing and/or negotiating a variety of commercial contracts, including confidentiality, customer, supplier, collaboration, licensing and other contractual documents.
  • Providing day-to-day legal advice and business partnering to the Motorsport and Digital business units, or such other areas of the business as may be required in the future.
  • Ensuring that the Head of Legal (Motorsport, Innovation & Digital) is appropriately informed and updated of progress on all work matters and key issues, including seeking input and guidance as necessary.
  • Supporting the Head of Legal (Motorsport, Innovation & Digital) and General Counsel with complex commercial transactions.
  • Support wider team objectives relating to legal workstream efficiencies, to include template management and training.
  • Ensuring compliance by the business and support functions with all applicable laws and regulations.
  • Working in close cooperation with other members of the Legal team as necessary including the Head of Ethics & Compliance, Head of Risk & Insurance and the IP Manager to identify legal risks and devise effective mitigation solutions.
  • Building and maintaining positive relationships with key stakeholders and support functions within Fortescue Zero and the wider Fortescue group.
  • Carrying out legal research.
  • Maintaining accurate files in relation to own caseload.
  • Instructing external counsel where required as agreed with senior team members and managing internal budget processes in liaison with the Paralegal.
  • Undertaking such other duties of a similar nature that are commensurate with your skills and abilities as determined by the Head of Legal (Motorsport, Innovation & Digital) and General Counsel.

About you

  • Excellent academic record.
  • Adequate experience, ideally with private practice training and subsequent in-house experience.
  • Commercial, IP law experience gained in private practice or in-house.
  • An understanding of the commercial and legal aspects of a technology and software-related business.
  • Solid experience in reviewing, drafting and negotiating a wide range of commercial agreements.
  • Ability to work proactively with the business.
  • A flexible and adaptable approach.
  • Good time-management, and comfortable working under pressure, often to tight deadlines.
