The Project Manager (PM) - Capabilities for Fortescue’s Decarb Advisory services in Morocco will manage the in-country delivery of skill building and talent requirements for Decarbonization and growth of the exploratory mine, leveraging Fortescue’s experience-based capability building expertise
The PM role will help the client teams to drive 95%+ Recruitment of all 300+ roles for Exploratory Mine and have a responsibility to embed and deploy Fortescue’s talent model for green mining operations with 3rd party clients via specifically defined project milestones, outcomes and KPIs – across mining, processing and logistics. This will involve providing expertise on how to:
- Undertake training with line leadership to commence and implement new ways of working, e.g. empowering workforce, changes to mining supervision and feedback, proactive coaching
- Identifying required energy management capabilities and jointly assessing candidates for internal or contract placement
- Help client HR to develop and implement a comprehensive Exploratory Mine training process complete with role specific modules
- Help client HR to develop responsibility matrices (RASCI) to set clear roles and responsibilities and development for all roles at the exploratory mine
- Jointly ensure Exploratory mine employees demonstrate role-specific skillsets, and these are integrated into performance and development reviews based on suitability for Advancement (Trainee, Intermediate and Advanced)
- Help set production and safety targets plus personal development and performance targets for employes which are then evaluated for inclusion in KPIs / Exploratory mine remuneration
Key Responsibilities
This role requires a dynamic project manager with material experience in project planning and execution across heavy mining or logistics equipment, zero-carbon emission technologies, and asset building – including a firm understanding of levers to optimize team performance, delivery schedules, cost and managing risks to ensure robust quality outcomes
Areas of accountability will include
- Project Planning – within the overarching objectives of delivering green mining talent model, the PM will be responsible for rigorous and pragmatic project planning with client teams – including understanding levers to identify and optimize critical paths, define cost and cashflow requirements, balance resource needs with available skills, define achievable stretch milestones and timeframes, identify critical enablers and show ownership of defined planning outputs
- Project Coordination – The PM will be required to coordinate within Fortescue to understand best-practice delivery options, and within client stakeholder teams (including contracted engineering teams) to create a shared sense of purpose and urgency, identify and manage constraints and bottleneck issues, while clearly communicating requirements for successful delivery of project objectives. This coordination and project delivery will be driven primarily from client offices and facilities in Morocco
- Project Delivery – jointly own delivery, showing resilience and creativity to drive effective project outcomes in line with or ahead of planned deliverable dates and KPIs – including working effectively with client teams and leading empathetically throughout
- Outcome Optimization – the PM should have a passion for achieving stretch outcomes for the client, and bring a zeal to continually improve or optimize plans or delivery – with an ability to understand cross program impacts and implications, incorporate local context inputs, and help other project managers or project teams where appropriate with a “one team” mindset
- Reporting and Feedback loops – effectively monitor and manage performance of the project with a forward-looking constrictive mindset, where reporting is prompt and efficient, but also targeted towards options to continually do things better. The PM should have a mindset that is open to constructive feedback, seeks inputs on ways to improve, and is proactive in coaching and supporting team members (including uplifting any lower performing team members)
- Ideation – the PM should actively pursue and suggest innovative ideas which enhance delivery outcomes in line with overall program decarbonization and growth objectives in a non-hierarchical but supportive manner – including understanding leading edge technologies or emergent applications which may be relevant for inclusion in the client program of work
- Celebration – the PM should continually encourage and call out positive performance from team members, and be generous in collating and sharing insights from work into the global Fortescue Decarbonization teams – working smarter not harder or longer
- Coordination – working constructively with the client Immersion planning team and the Perth based HR implementation team (Immersion is training client people via work placements in Australia)
- Retaining and coaching project team members in green mining talent model
- Develop project expertise in the delivery and operation of green mining talent model
- Manage delivery of project contractual commitments (particularly milestones) for Decarbonization
Qualifications and Experience
- A Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Industrial Relations, or a related field
- Professional training or qualifications in multiple elements across effective project delivery (e.g. PRINCE, PMO skills, Negotiations, Advanced Analytics/AI, people leadership)
- 5+ years plus working in HR and workforce planning experience
- 2+ years managing teams to successfully deliver talent model
- Familiarity with hiring and retaining a workforce for heavy operations environments and/or remote sites
- Robust understanding of HR functions such as performance management, talent acquisition, diversity & inclusion, and learning & development
- Broad understanding of heavy industry operations
