- Fortescue’s Solomon mine is located on the traditional lands of the Eastern Guruma and Yindjibarndi peoples.
Roster: 8D/6R FIFO ex. Perth
The Solomon team seeking a highly motivated Mine Geologist. Reporting to the Senior Mine Geologist, their focus will be to use their knowledge of iron ore geology to complete block-out designs using Vulcan, and to validate these designs in the field. They will be required to communicate this geological information in a safe, accurate, and timely manner to various stakeholders. They will also be required to communicate effectively with mining and engineering teams to also ensure consistent grade control. To be successful in this role, candidates must have strong interpersonal, communication and teamwork skills.
Key Responsibilities
- Complete technical tasks using Vulcan or equivalent software to deliver grade designs in a timely and accurate manner
- Ensure that all plans are communicated in a safe, accurate, and timely manner to various stakeholders
- Ensure that material on stockpiles is accurate and consistent with planned objectives.
- Communicate and work closely with technical and engineering teams to maximise daily and weekly plans
- Communicate effectively and provide accurate geological data and advice to mining teams on a regular basis
- Mentor and communicate daily with excavator operators in open pit setting
- Provide input to technical services to maximise output and ore recovery at lowest cost
- Support Senior and Project Mine Geologists in meeting company objectives and KPI’s
- Ensure compliance to the FMG standards and statutory obligations
Qualifications and Experience
- Tertiary bachelor’s qualification in Geology or related discipline
- Experience working in a mining environment is preferred
- Some working knowledge of Vulcan desirable
- Strong leadership skills and interpersonal skills
- Excellent communication skills
- Current WA C-Class manual driver’s licence
