Our Opportunity
Work Location: Fortescue’s Perth office is located on the traditional lands of the Whadjuk people.
Roster: Perth Monday to Friday
Fortescue is seeking a Principal Native Title to develop and maintain a comprehensive understanding of Fortescue’s native title landscape, operational requirements and agreement making processes. As part of a broader First Nations team, this valued role is critical to: supporting the broader goals of the organisation; achieving responsible land access; and delivering against the expectations of affected native title holding communities.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure Fortescue complies with native title obligations, including legal, regulatory, and policy requirements.
- Lead and support negotiations with native title parties, ensuring alignment with business objectives and compliance with legislation.
- Provide expert advice and guidance to the business on native title matters, including agreement terms, compliance, and best practice.
- Foster and maintain positive relationships with native title parties, legal representatives, government agencies, and other key internal and external stakeholders.
- Support and guide the Native Title Team, ensuring clear understanding of responsibilities and reliable business performance.
- Oversee the preparation of necessary documentation, including agreements, reports, and compliance records.
Qualifications and Experience
- In-depth knowledge of the Native Title Act 1993 and related concepts of Indigenous land law.
- Understanding of core principles of land tenure and administration.
- Proven experience in native title negotiations and agreement making processes – preferably within the resources industry.
- Demonstrated experience in a senior role involving native title compliance.
- Ability to work well within diverse teams, support staff, and engage with senior leadership.
