Automation Project Lead

Our Opportunity

Work Location: Perth & Site (hybrid 50/50 split) – Fortescue’s Perth office is located on the traditional lands of the Whadjuk people

Roster: 5:2, 4:3 (Monday to Friday in Perth 7.6 hrs, then 4:3 on site 12 hrs)

The Technology Project Lead is responsible for overseeing the planning, execution, and delivery of capital technology projects within Fortescue. This role involves guiding cross functional teams to ensure that projects are completed on time, within scope, and within budget.

The Project Lead will coordinate with stakeholders to define project objectives, develop comprehensive project plans, and implement strategies to mitigate risks. By promoting teamwork and effective communication among team members and external partners, the Technology Project Lead will drive innovation and continuous improvement, ensuring that technology solutions align with organisational goals and deliver measurable value.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and manage detailed project plans that outline scope, objectives, timelines, and resource requirements.
• Lead and motivate cross-functional teams to ensure successful project delivery.
• Communicate effectively with stakeholders to gather requirements, provide updates, and manage expectations.
• Identify risks and implement mitigation strategies while monitoring project budgets for effective resource allocation.
• Track project progress against milestones, ensuring deliverables meet quality standards and align with organizational goals.
• Prepare regular project status reports and facilitate lessons learned sessions to enhance future project practices.

Qualifications and Experience

• Certificate / qualification in project management, information technology, or a related field (highly desirable).
• Relevant certificates in leadership & management.
• +5 years’ experience in project management within the mining, maintenance, or technology sectors.
• Proven track record of successfully delivering capital projects from inception to completion.
• Exceptional leadership skills with the ability to inspire, mentor, and support cross functional teams.
• Strong project planning and execution abilities, with focus on strategic alignment and operational efficiency.
• Excellent interpersonal skills to engage effectively with stakeholders at all organisational levels.
• Proficient in risk assessment and management, ensuring proactive identification and mitigation of potential project challenges.
• Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to adapt to changing circumstances and priorities.
• Effective communications skills, both verbal and written, for clear reporting and stakeholder engagement.
• Proficient in project management software and tools, including Microsoft 365 applications.
• Familiarity with scheduling application for effective resource management.
• Knowledge of industry best practices and emerging technologies relevant to autonomous operations and project delivery.
• Understanding of data management principles and the ability to leverage data for informed decision making.
