Our Opportunity

 

Work Location: Christmas Creek - Fortescue’s Christmas Creek mine is located on the traditional lands of the Nyiyaparli people.

 

Roster: 7D/7N/14R – FIFO ex Perth. Flying out on Wednesday. 

 

Reporting to the OPF Maintenance Services Supervisor, the Belt Technician is responsible for the maintenance, repair, and continuous improvement of conveyor systems and associated equipment. This role plays a critical part in ensuring the safe, reliable, and cost-effective operation of fixed plant assets to support operational targets.

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Foster and maintain a strong Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) culture aligned with Fortescue standards.
  • Perform steel cord and fabric conveyor belt splicing and repairs to a high standard.
  • Apply cold vulcanised lagging to pulleys on-site in compliance with Fortescue specifications.
  • Install rubber linings to pipes, spools, launders, and chutes as required.
  • Conduct conveyor system maintenance, including roller and frame replacements, skirt repairs, and installation of tracking devices.
  • Drive continuous improvement in conveyor belt hygiene and housekeeping across the fixed plant process.
  • Safely operate mechanical conveyor handling equipment, including winders, winches, and belt stands.
  • Complete preventative maintenance inspections and accurately log all findings in the asset management system (PDS).
  • Generate follow-up work orders based on inspection outcomes and learnings to improve conveyor reliability.
  • Lead shutdown areas and supervise shutdown teams to ensure safe and efficient task execution.

Qualifications and Experience

 

  • Level 3 Belt Splicing trade qualification or similar.
  • Knowledge and experience in computer maintenance management systems, (SAP, PDS).
  • Significant experience in a fixed plant continuous processing plant.
  • Strong understanding of both production and maintenance strategies for large-scale, continuous processing plants.
  • Proven commitment to safety and zero harm culture.
  • Ability to work with others to achieve objectives.
  • Effective verbal, written and computer skills.
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills.
