Work Location: Fortescue’s Solomon mine is located on the traditional lands of the Eastern Guruma and Yindjibarndi peoples.

 

Roster: 8D6R7N7R - FIFO ex Perth

 

As an experienced High Voltage Electrician at Fortescue within the cable management team, you will play a vital role in maintaining, testing and repairing high voltage electrical equipment in conjunction with the operations and mining cable handling team. This position is critical for ensuring the uninterrupted operation of our mining activities for the HV assets, contributing to the overall efficiency and safety of our site. Suitable candidates will require experience and technical knowledge of HV electrical infrastructure and switching programs.

 

Reporting to the Cable Management HV Electrical Supervisor, this role is responsible for managing the HV power supply to 9400E Excavators, PV271E Pit Viper Drill Rigs and all associated assets and HV infrastructure. They will interact with the mining and HME teams to help ensure an efficient and well-delivered operation of these assets with minimal disruption to mining performance.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Uphold and demonstrate Fortescue's values, adhering to the code of conduct and fostering a safe, inclusive and respectful workplace environment.
  • Perform maintenance, fault diagnosis and repairs on high voltage equipment and systems, including mining machinery (Excavators and Drills), transformers, ABS, circuit breakers.
  • Conduct regular inspections and testing of high voltage systems to ensure compliance with safety and industry standards whilst also being accountable for ensuring the statutory recording of HV electrical installations and other electrical work in the electrical logbook as required.  
  • Implement and monitor electrical safety procedures and protocols to ensure a safe working environment for all employees and keep up to date with the latest industry trends, technologies and safety standards related to high voltage electrical systems.
  • Respond to breakdowns or outages, quickly diagnosing issues and restoring power in a timely manner.
  • Ensure daily work completed is reflected in work orders and time confirmations in SAP; creation of notification and work orders for all unplanned/breakdown work conducted outside of plan in the current week.

 

 

Qualifications and Experience

 

  • Electrical trade qualification.
  • High Voltage Switching Ticket.
  • Current WA A Class Electrical Workers licence.
  • Senior First Aid and Low Voltage Rescue and CPR.
  • Extensive experience in maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of high voltage systems, preferably within the mining industry or similar heavy industrial environments. Strong understanding of HV safety practices and regulations.
  • Effective communication skills, capable of working closely with cross-functional teams to ensure operational objectives are met.
