Our Opportunity
Work Location: Fortescue’s Perth CBD office located on the traditional lands of the Whadjuk people.
Roster: Monday to Friday (flexible hours, with childcare creche available in the Perth office). Availability for regular site visits also required.

Joining Fortescue as a Civil Engineer, you will be an important part of our Asset & Materials Management team. Reporting to the Superintendent SMP Engineering, this role is pivotal in providing technical support to the various business project teams, assisting with; project scoping and specification, review of project design deliverables, response to technical queries and liaison with external design consultants to ensure projects are compliant with applicable regulations, standards and Fortescue specifications.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide technical support and direction for civil works projects, including roads, drains, culverts, windrows, crane pads, trenching, water storage, and other civil requirements.
- Undertake calculations to support development of standardized design approaches for commonly utilized facilities and structures.
- Improving Fortescue's civil engineering design specifications and standards to provide practical, business-focused guidance to stakeholders.
- Engaging with internal engineering departments including geotechnical, mine development, hydrology, survey, rail and dewatering teams to ensure that the standards developed by the engineering team meet the requirements of these internal stakeholders.
- Providing safety leadership to effectively identify and manage technical risks across Fortescue.
- Collaborate with civil contracting partners to ensure compliance with standards and regulations.
Qualifications and Experience
- Degree qualification in Civil Engineering.
- Experience with geotechnical investigation, design, and construction of structures in various ground conditions.
- Exposure to construction equipment and techniques is advantageous.
- Familiarity with pumping systems, culverts, concrete and steel structures, drainage, and hydrology is beneficial but not mandatory.
- Ability to assist with civil engineering calculations for ground pressures, strength, stability, and drainage.
- Foundational understanding of Australian & Industry Standards, along with knowledge of industry regulations, codes of practice, and WHS legislation relevant to civil construction.
- Strong conceptual thinking and analytical focus and the ability to influence others to understand your thinking.
