Work Location: This role supports both Fortescue’s Solomon mine which is located on the traditional lands of the Eastern Guruma and Yindjibarndi peoples and the Eliwana mine which is located on the traditional lands of the Puutu Kunti Kurrama and Pinikura people.

It’s an exciting time to be a part of the Fortescue family and we are looking for an experienced and passionate communications professional to join our team in the role of Communications Specialist.
In this role, you will drive innovative communications and engagement for both site and office-based teams across our Mining Operations workforce in Western Australia.
With a focus on building connection and clarity, you will leverage a range of internal and external communication channels to inform and inspire our diverse operations workforce.
You will be a trusted advisor to senior operational leaders, supporting a wide range of portfolios across Fortescue’s mining operations, embedding our unique culture and values, and driving strong employee engagement.
This is a dynamic role, where no two days are the same. You will be responsible for end-to-end strategic planning and delivery of written, visual, digital and verbal communications to support both site-specific and overall business objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Communication channel management – plan, develop and manage content for a range of internal and external communication channels.
- Work closely with leadership teams as a trusted advisor, developing messaging to manage complex and sensitive issues and promote team and business objectives.
- Evaluate impact and measure effectiveness of communications channels to achieve real and measurable engagement.
- Support stakeholder engagement and significant events, including site tours.
- Promote Fortescue’s iron-ore operations through story telling via internal and external channels.
- Protect and promote Fortescue’s reputation through crisis communication, incident management and strategic advice.
- Ensure all content is underpinned by Fortescue’s Values and produced in line with global communications, brand and market disclosure guidelines.
Qualifications and Experience
- A strong background in internal communications, with the opportunity to leverage other skills including media, content creation, public relations and events.
- A Bachelor’s degree in Communications or related discipline/field such as Public Relations, Digital Communications or Journalism is preferred.
- Experience working with and influencing stakeholders at all levels.
- Well organised, with sound project management skills and strong attention to detail.
- Understanding of mining operations and green energy industries is ideal.
- Demonstrated understanding of tailoring writing and content for various channels and audiences.
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities and stakeholders in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
- Skilled in using a variety of communications content creation and management platforms e.g. SharePoint, Canva, Adobe and Microsoft suites, or similar.
