Cost Accountant
Our Opportunity
Location: Fortescue Centre - 256 St Georges Tce, Perth located on the traditional lands of the Whadjuk people
Roster: 5D2R Monday - Friday FIFO ex Perth with frequent travel to site (minimum 2 nights per month)
As a Cost Accountant at one of Fortescue’s Iron Ore Hematite Mine in Pilbara, you will play a crucial role in the adoption and implementation of the cost management system and processes, ensuring capital projects are tracking timely and cost effectively to Budget and Plan. You will work closely with management team to provide financial insights and support as part of the broader finance business partner team, contributing to the overall financial health and success of our organisation.
Key Responsibilities

Implement and maintain cost management systems, processes, and procedures

Oversee project cost control, budgeting, forecasting, and performance reporting

Manage cost and progress reporting to ensure timely, accurate insights for project teams

Lead key cost functions including accruals, forecasting, variance analysis, and change management

Drive process improvement through automation and enhanced financial controls

Ensure compliance with accounting standards and Fortescue’s financial policies
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- Working towards CA/CPA/CIMA qualification
- +3 years exposure to management or financial accounting in mining or similar industry preferred
- Ability to interpret and identify key cost drivers to deliver insight and opportunity across all levels within Site and Corporate team
- Good understanding of project control principle, processes and techniques
- Good communication skills, ability to interface with project stakeholders
- Ability to work independently and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
