Cyber Security Engineer - Data Protection
Our Opportunity
Work Location: Perth, Western Australia. Fortescue’s Perth office is located on the traditional lands of the Whadjuk people.
Roster: Monday to Friday (5D/2R).
** This role is initially an 8 month Fixed Term Contract, essentially until 30/06/2026, with a view to extend. **
The Cyber Security team is responsible for leading Fortescue's efforts to be a cyber resilient, safe and trusted organisation, by effectively managing risk across all assets enabled through technology (informational, industrial and operational).
The Cyber Engineer – Data Protection plays a critical role in safeguarding Fortescue’s sensitive data by implementing and optimizing technical controls, investigating breaches, and collaborating across teams to ensure robust data protection. Reporting to the Superintendent of Cyber Risk Advisory, the role will be responsible for data protection within Fortescue environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the ongoing operation and optimisation of data protection solutions.
- Contribute to refinement of data protection controls, the application, operation of the appropriate procedural and technical controls.
- Support investigation of actual or potential data breaches and recommend actions and appropriate control improvements.
- Support Data Protection team in handling service requests and BAU activities.
- Provide technical expertise to enable the configuration of data protection solutions.
- Work closely with Technology and other departments to data protection policies and solutions to protect sensitive data across a variety of channels.
- Contribute to the development of Data Protection roadmap by collaborating with wider Cyber team and Cyber leadership.
Qualifications and Experience
- Degree / Diploma / Certificate in Information Technology, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, mechatronics, or a related discipline.
- Experience in successful delivery of Data Protection initiatives or program of work.
- Expert knowledge in Data Loss Prevention (DLP) technologies/products such as Microsoft Purview, Azure, Sentinel, Defender, Netskope, D-Tex, Forcepoint, Veritas, Varonis etc.
- Independent judgement and strong decision-making capabilities.
- An ability to communicate complex and technical issues to diverse audiences at all levels.
- An understanding of organizational mission, values, and goals and consistent application of this knowledge.
- Ability to react to high pressure dynamic changing environments.
- Ability to effectively work independently or as part of a team.
