Work Location:  Fortescue’s Perth office is located on the traditional lands of the Whadjuk people. 

 

Roster: Monday to Friday – site travel is unlikely but possible.

Key Responsibilities

Data Analysis and AI 

  • Analyse complex data sets to provide actionable insights and present findings. 
  • Develop, implement, optimise, monitor, and maintain AI models and solutions. 
  • Apply principles of AI and data ethics to ensure solutions are ethical, safe, and explainable. 

Strategic Planning and Emerging Technologies 

  • Monitor and apply emerging technology and open-source trends and assess their potential impact on current and future data science projects. 
  • Conduct informal research to explore new methodologies, tools, and techniques that can enhance data science capabilities. 
  • Contribute and lead knowledge management endeavors by documenting methodologies, processes, and insights, ensuring they are accessible and usable by the team. 

Technical Development and Programming 

  • Develop and maintain software solutions using best practices in programming and software development. 
  • Conduct rigorous testing to ensure the quality and reliability of data science models and solutions. 
  • Assist solution architecture and systems design efforts to ensure data science solutions are integrated effectively within the enterprise architecture. 

Data Management and Engineering 

  • Manage and maintain data management processes, ensuring data integrity, security, and accessibility. 
  • Design, build, and optimise data pipelines and infrastructure. 

Requirements Management 

  • Gather and validate requirements for data science projects from stakeholders, ensuring they align with business needs and objectives. 

Qualifications and Experience

 

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, mathematics, statistics, machine learning, or a related field. 

Experience (5+ years) in data science and AI solution system development in the mining, energy, green energy, or heavy industrial operations preferred. 

Artificial Intelligence 

  • Strong understanding and practical experience in Machine Learning and Generative AI, and the scientific and programmatic use, deployment, and measurement of AI and GenAI models. 
  • Strong knowledge of data science tools and technologies, including programming languages such as Python and the use of Git. 

Software Engineering 

  • Strong proficiency in Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, SQL, and machine learning frameworks (e.g TensorFlow, PyTorch) 
  • Experience and understanding of platforms such as Snowflake, Kafka, S3 and Databricks/SageMaker (beneficial). 
  • Familiar with cloud platforms such as AWS or Azure.  
  • Practical experience with software development industry best practices. 

Modern Work 

  • Highly proficient in the use and application of Generative AI for writing, coding and other accelerated work activities. 
  • Strong stakeholder relationship management and presentation skills. 
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical abilities. 
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate complex technical concepts to both multi-disciplinary product teams and to non-technical stakeholders.
