Location: Perth - Fortescue’s Perth office is located on the traditional lands of the Whadjuk people.

The key mission of this role will be to design, develop and evolve the next-gen AI-enabled software systems that support our mine to port supply chain.
The right candidate will bring an understanding of the software deployment, tooling, and support to provide stable and reliable improvements to critical systems, along with a drive for delivering working deployments and infrastructure systems from concept design through to production.
Key Responsibilities
- Designing and implementing infrastructure and automation to support the delivery of advanced decision-making tools for our supply chain planning & scheduling teams.
- Collaborating with development and operations teams to diagnose performance and reliability issues across the stack, and implementing proactive monitoring, alerting, and automated remediation.
- Developing and evolving CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure-as-code solutions for back-end systems, server-side applications, databases, and APIs to ensure seamless integration and deployment.
- Maintaining high standards of system reliability, security, and performance by implementing best practices in infrastructure management and automation.
- Participating in code reviews, providing constructive feedback to peers and receiving feedback on own code.
- Mentoring team members on DevOps principles and practices and helping support the broader adoption of automation and reliability engineering across Fortescue.
Qualifications and Experience
- Background in computer science, software engineering or similar.
- Proven experience (1-3+) as a DevOps Engineer, Site Reliability Engineer (SRE), or similar role.
- Strong understanding of cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP) and their core services.
- Experience with infrastructure-as-code tools (e.g., Terraform, CloudFormation, Ansible).
- Proficiency in scripting languages (e.g., Python, Bash).
- Experience designing and implementing CI/CD pipelines (e.g., Jenkins, GitLab CI, CircleCI).
- Solid understanding of monitoring and logging tools (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, ELK stack).
- Experience with containerization and orchestration technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).
- Good analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience in agile development methodologies and scrum-type delivery teams.
- Interest in the development of advanced operations decision-support systems using artificial intelligence, machine learning and combinatorial optimisation.
