Our Opportunity

 

Work Location: Iron Bridge - Fortescue’s Iron Bridge project is located on the traditional lands of the Nyamal people

 

Roster: 8D6R FIFO ex Perth

 

We are currently seeking an experienced Drill & Blast Specialist to join the team at Iron Bridge. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a modern and large open-pit magnetite operation. Reporting to the Senior Drill & Blast Engineer, your role is to enable the Drill & Blast Operations team to execute their function through timely release of drill patterns, charge and tie in designs whilst identifying opportunities to improve the teams’ deliverables.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Manage daily drill and blast engineering tasks including but not limited to data hygiene and validation, shift reporting and liaising with stakeholders to determine priorities for the day
  • Identify drill preparation requirements and opportunities, adhering to the latest 2 Week Plan as is practical to ensure continuity of drilling operations and minimising standby
  • Publish drill and blast designs, having considered design parameters, utilising measure while drilling (MWD) data, post blast and excavation analysis to achieve blast performance objectives
  • Ensure that our Traditional owners and environmental commitments at met, specifically blast vibrations limit and fauna disturbance (bat caves)
  • Liaise with other Mine Ops Planning functions and stakeholders to troubleshoot issues that may arise from time to time and escalate as necessary
  • Manage explosives inventory and conduct investigations to resolve discrepancies
  • Undertake analytics or activities to identify improvement opportunities

 

 

Qualifications and Experience

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering or equivalent (or working towards equivalent)
  • Previous experience gained as a Mining Engineer with exposure to production scheduling and/or drill and blast engineering
  • Proficient Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, PowerApps, PowerBI).
  • Strong grasp of integrated mining systems with focus on troubleshooting
  • Experience with coding (Python, VBA, Perl, AI) is highly desirable
