Work Location: Perth – Fortescue’s Perth office is located on the traditional lands of the Whadjuk Noongar people. Some ad hoc travel will be required.

Fortescue is delivering one of the most ambitious renewable energy infrastructure projects, with a 220kV transmission and green power network in the Pilbara. Join us as an Electrical Engineer and help shape the future of sustainable energy. This is a Perth based position where you will play a key role in the technical delivery of major 220kV/33kV substation packages. You will need to collaborate with vendors and other teams to deliver an integrated solution that meets the requirements of all stakeholders. Focus areas include scope development, procurement, package management and construction support.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Specify, procure and deliver critical substation packages—including switch rooms, HV switchgear, transformers, MV boards, auxiliary transformers and generators—on time and within budget
  • Develop key project documentation, such as scopes of work, equipment specifications, technical datasheets, budgets and schedules
  • Support the RFP and procurement process, reviewing proposals, resolving technical clarifications and conducting weighted evaluations
  • Manage vendor packages, reviewing and interpreting layouts, schematics and other deliverables to ensure constructability and integration with other project systems
  • Liaise with internal teams, external stakeholders, clients and vendors to ensure successful delivery of 220/33kV substations
  • Review and approve vendor quality documentation, including ITPs, ITRs, test reports and technical procedures
  • Provide technical advice and resolve issues or defects using knowledge of industry standards, regulatory requirements and best practices
  • Coordinate internal collaboration to ensure alignment with company standards and seamless integration across packages and systems
  • Attend and witness factory and site acceptance testing (FAT/SAT) for major electrical equipment
  • Support commissioning, troubleshooting and quality control, ensuring compliance with project requirements and proper documentation throughout execution.

 

Qualifications and Experience

 

  • Bachelor of Electrical Engineering or equivalent
  • 3 - 7 years’ experience in mining or power industry required
  • Demonstrated ability to produce project scopes, specifications and technical documentation
  • Demonstrated ability to verify designs meet specifications
  • Familiar with Australian Standards relating to electrical systems
  • Experience with substations or transmission lines is highly regarded
  • Strong knowledge and application of Australian Standards (Electrical)
  • Good understanding of the balance between technical and commercial outcomes
  • Ability to effectively communicate and collaborate across a range of different stakeholders.
