We’re seeking an experienced and motivated Energy Operator to play a pivotal role in the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of Fortescue’s power system. 

 

Reporting to the  position supports the coordination and remote operation of generation, transmission, and distribution assets across multiple mining sites. With a strong focus on teamwork, safety, and performance, this role directly supports Fortescue’s decarbonisation pathway and energy reliability. Key Responsibilities

 

  • Perform real-time remote monitoring and operation of Fortescue’s power system to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable energy delivery.
  • Identify, assess, and respond to incidents or failures across transmission and distribution networks, applying rapid remedial actions.
  • Develop and implement restoration plans during emergency situations, including blackout procedures.
  • Check and execute switching programs during planned outages in alignment with safety and operational standards.
  • Execute System Emergency Response strategies in line with defined procedures and regulatory requirements.
  • Contribute to the ongoing development, implementation, and training of systems used in power system operations.
  • Identify and drive continuous improvement opportunities across processes, systems, and operational outputs.
  • Promote a proactive safety culture by complying with all HSE policies, participating in training, and reporting hazards and incidents.

Qualifications and Experience

 

  • Technical experience in a network or generation environment, including SCADA, protection, and control systems.
  • Proven ability to manage real-time decision-making under pressure, balancing reliability, safety, and business priorities.
  • Skilled in executing and approving safe, efficient switching programs for planned and unplanned works.
  • Strong understanding of transmission, distribution, and generation operations, and associated regulatory compliance.
  • Qualifications: Electrical Trade Certificate III, or Electrical Diploma/Advanced Diploma/Degree in Engineering or Science.
  • Certificate IV in ESI Generation Operations (UEP40218) and a valid WA Class ‘C’ Driver’s Licence.
