Are you ready to oversee and deliver comprehensive inland waters studies? At Fortescue, as the Senior Environmental Advisor – Inland Waters, you'll work across disciplines like aquatic ecology, ecohydrology, ecophysiology and ground and surface water. Collaborate with internal teams, academia, industry, and regulators. Manage studies, prepare scopes of work, assess risks, advise on mitigation, develop and implement management plans, ensure high standards in monitoring and reporting, navigate regulations, and build expert relationships. Be part of a dedicated Nature and Science team focused on making a positive impact in the mining sector.

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Project Manage inland waters studies with a range of complexity and scale, across multiple disciplines, to meet Fortescue’s environmental approval and compliance requirements.
  • Prepare detailed, high quality, scopes of work, within input from internal subject matter experts, environmental approval leads and studies managers.
  • Plan and facilitate inland water risk assessments.
  • Provide advice regarding effective application of the mitigation hierarchy and acceptable impact thresholds in relation to Inland Waters, to guide environmental design.
  • Support development of management plans (including setting of thresholds).
  • Support implementation of inland water management plans and associated monitoring, including preparation of scopes of work, coordinating monitoring, and ensuring reporting and data is captured to a high standard.
  • Provide advice in relation to relevant regulatory frameworks and Decision Making Authority (DMA) expectations in relation to Inland Waters.
  • Undertake technical reviews, including but not limited to study deliverables, scopes of work, Environmental Impact Assessment and Management Plans.
  • Provide guidance in relation to stakeholder consultation requirements, preparation of consultation information and delivery of stakeholder consultation in relation to Inland Waters.
  • Build relationships with academia, industry, regulators and private sector technical expertise in relevant disciplines.

Qualifications and Experience

 

  • A tertiary Degree in Environmental Science, or equivalent
  • Demonstrated advanced knowledge and understanding of State and Federal environmental legislation
  • Knowledge of environmental management relevant to dust, noise and marine impacts 
  • Advanced reporting writing, interpersonal and communications skills
  • A strong understanding of Microsoft software applications
  • Desired - 5 - 8 years’ experience in an environmental role within the resources industry or an associated government department
  • Desired – experience in use of GIS software
  • Desired knowledge and understanding of the Pilbara environment
