Join Fortescue’s passionate and driven Environment team and play a critical role in supporting the effective environmental management of our Pilbara operations. Our team is expanding and we are looking for a proactive and hands-on Experienced Environmental Technician to lead and deliver vital site-based programs across groundwater, surface water, and dust monitoring.

 

As an Environmental Technician, you’ll be instrumental in collecting and managing high-quality environmental data to support compliance with regulatory approvals and legislative requirements. This diverse role will see you out in the field monitoring groundwater and surface water, analysing environmental data, maintaining equipment, supporting fauna management, and collaborating with a wide range of internal teams and external consultants.

 

You’ll also contribute to broader environmental initiatives, including inspections, audits, and technology adoption to enhance monitoring practices and efficiency.

 

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct groundwater, surface water, and dust monitoring in accordance with environmental approvals and Australian standards.
  • Manage data collection, analysis, and reporting using QA/QC protocols and Envirosys software.
  • Support environmental compliance through inspections, incident response, and communication packages.
  • Assist with fieldwork coordination for consultants and liaise with laboratories for timely sample analysis.
  • Deliver fauna management activities including relocation, care, and feral animal control.
  • Champion innovation by identifying and implementing technological improvements.

Qualifications and Experience

  • 2-4 years’ experience in the resource sector or a similar field-based environmental role.
  • Certificate or Diploma in Environmental Monitoring or related discipline (required).
  • A relevant degree in Environmental Science or Engineering (desirable).
  • Solid understanding of groundwater monitoring and environmental data management.
  • Strong communication skills and a can-do attitude.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and environmental databases.
