Our Opportunity

Work Location: Solomon - Fortescue’s Solomon mine is located on the traditional lands of the Eastern Guruma and Yindjibarndi people.

Roster: 8D/6R FIFO ex. Perth (12-month fixed-term contract)

 

We are currently seeking a highly motivated Field Technician to join the Mine Geology team at our Solomon Operation.

 

Reporting to the Field Supervisor, you will be tasked with taking high-quality representative blast hole samples. For the successful candidates, training will be provided in correct sampling techniques and basic geological logging.

 

This role will require you to be physically fit and able to work in summer Pilbara conditions.

Key Responsibilities

  • RC Sample collection and dispatch to our Solomon site.
  • Daily Acquire, Delta and CorePlan data entry and updating of trackers.
  • Dispatch of sample bulka bags to offsite laboratories.
  • Assessment of work area accesses and signage requirements.
  • Entry and closure of identified hazards in BMS.
  • Pre-Starts & maintenance of vehicles by ensuring thorough fault reporting and on-time vehicle delivery to the workshop.
  • Stock-take and monitoring of all office and drilling consumables.
  • Assist Field Supervisor with day-to-day tasks.
  • General forklift loading/unloading.
  • Flagging of Drill hole locations for upcoming drill programs.
  • Demarcation of LUC Boundaries and areas of cultural significance.
  • Assisting the earthworks team where required.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Minimum 6 Months Experience working in an open pit Environment.
  • Representation of Fortescue's core values.
  • Class C manual WA driver’s licence.
  • Operating a 4WD competency.
  • HR Truck Licence.
  • Current first aid.
  • Forklift ticket desirable.
  • Able and confident working in remote Pilbara conditions.
  • Able to conduct physical tasks like sample bag pick-ups and hiking in steep rugged terrain.
  • Written and verbal communication skills.
  • Basic/moderate computer literacy.
  • Exceptional skills working within a team.
  • Compliance with all systems and procedures with a personal focus on safety in the team.
  • Acquire software experience preferable.
  • Good problem-solving skills and an ability to multi-task.
