Geotechnical Engineer - Design

Work Location: Perth - Fortescue’s Perth office is located on the traditional lands of the Whadjuk people.
Roster: Monday to Friday
We are seeking the talents of a dynamic and skilled Geotechnical Engineer to join our geotechnical design team to deliver projects across our operations. This is a Perth based role supporting our Lead Geotechnical Engineer to deliver design work across all mining stages from conception through to execution. This role works closely with our Structural and Geotechnical Assurance teams in Perth and also supports our Operations teams with design assessment, reconciliation, and validation work.
In this position, you will draw upon your experience with mining operations, geotechnical data collection, rockmass and structural characterisation, and slope stability analysis, to deliver value adding solutions to open pit and waste landform design.
This position would equally suit someone with several years of mining experience through to someone working at a senior level. We will match the role to the experience, skills, and attitude that the successful candidate brings
Key Responsibilities
- Provide geotechnical support to mining operations in the form of geotechnical data collection program planning, execution, and slope stability design review.
- Provide technical advice and consultation with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.
- Geotechnical modelling and reporting related to open pits and waste rock dumps.
- Definition of slope monitoring requirements and implementation.
- Identifying and communicating geotechnical risk.
- Maintain a collaborative relationship with other business units and external parties, contribute to knowledge building and awareness, support development of geotechnical systems.
- Irregular site travel to support geotechnical design work across our operations.
Qualifications and Experience
- A tertiary qualification in Geotechnical Engineering, Engineering Geology, Civil Engineering, or similar.
- Experience in open pit slope stability modelling, analysis and operational management.
- Knowledge of geotechnical data collection, laboratory testing and mine planning processes is essential.
- Excellent communication and report writing skills, with a demonstrated experience of communicating to a variety of stakeholders.
- Competent use of Vulcan and the Rocscience suite of software.
- Demonstrable data management and manipulation skills
- Ability to collaboratively work with the wider team and other stakeholders
