Hydrogeologist
Our Opportunity
Work Location: Perth - Fortescue’s Perth office is located on the traditional lands of the Whadjuk people.
Roster: Monday to Friday (5:2), permanent, full time but with part time option available for discussion
Join the Perth-based Water Planning team to assist with groundwater management planning and hydrogeological investigations for our Chichester Operations. The Chichester Operation is one of the largest, most complex dewatering systems in the world and integrates mine dewatering, water supply and managed aquifer recharge.
The role, which would be ideal for an early career or intermediate level Hydrogeologist, will primarily assist the Project Hydrogeologists with development and coordination of drilling and project scopes, ongoing assessment of aquifer response to dewatering, reporting as required for investigations and regulatory commitments and hydrogeological analysis.
Reporting to the Senior Hydrogeologist, the position requires excellent communication, time management and determination to develop the technical skills required to help ensure robust hydrogeological assessments are completed on time and are effectively communicated to the business.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop scope of work documents for drilling and testing to meet scheduled timeframes
- Conduct scope handover meetings with site hydrogeologists and incorporate any feedback into revisions to the scope of works
- Assist with any technical queries during drilling and testing process
- Ensure planning hydrogeologists are informed about any drilling outcomes that influence conceptual or modelling outcomes
- Ensure drilling outcomes are incorporated into conceptualisations and leapfrog model updates
- Collaborate with site teams to ensure data management and quality is maintained
- Assess hydrogeological responses to abstraction and injection for the purpose of re-conceptualisation and adaptive management
- Assist with hydrogeological reporting as required for investigations and regulatory commitments
- Maintain a collaborative relationship with other business units and external parties
Qualifications and Experience
- A degree or an equivalent tertiary qualification in Engineering Geology, Hydrogeology or Geosciences. MSc in Hydrogeology preferred
- Experience in or ability to demonstrate an understanding of mine water management and/or water drilling
- Knowledge of hydrogeological software packages
- Strong data management and manipulation skills
- Strong team skills and a willingness to conduct short site trips on occasion
