Land Strategy Advisor

Roster: Monday to Friday
A key contributor to delivery of the land strategy for the APAC and Global Land Strategy Portfolios. Undertakes due diligence, contract preparation and supports the Land and Access team and broader Commercial team in negotiations and management of land agreements. Includes landholder engagement and interfacing with multiple functions and departments. A detail-oriented role that requires critical thinking and initiative.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide land strategy support and advice for APAC and Global Land project delivery including activities to secure land for future renewable energy projects.
- Build and maintain relationships and assisting in the negotiation of land access agreements with landholders such as pastoralists or other parties, including conferring with internal and external stakeholders.
- Prepare landholder exclusive collaboration contracts through active coordination with Legal on novel and complex issues.
- Provide the team with a high level of contract management expertise.
- Assist with the management of relationship with organisations under contract to operate Fortescue owned pastoral leases.
- Manage relationships with Department of Planning, Lands and Heritage and Pastoral Lands Board as applicable, in addition to other State Government departments.
- Provide support and advice to the team on governance and compliance processes, systems and applications.
- Support and advise project team members of compliance issues when they arise to ensure all required land access agreements are current and fit for purpose.
- Support execution of Global Land Strategy assembly plans via an optimal combination of acquisitions, contract rights, mining or other regulatory permits, licences and leases, which vary depending on jurisdiction.
- Work closely with Native Title, Project Approvals, Environment, Heritage and project controls teams, to ensure coordination and alignment.
- Contribute to and ultimately lead negotiations with Native Title parties with the intention of agreeing mutually beneficial terms for future renewable energy projects.
- Develop and maintain project coordination tools including logs of stakeholder engagement.
- Maintain tools to capture and present information on land rights and interests including capturing land access agreements in the relevant database (PX4).
Qualifications and Experience
- Tertiary qualifications in Project Management, Commerce/Law, Urban and Regional Planning, or other land access related degree qualification (highly regarded)
- Experience in commercial support (Essential)
- Knowledge of WA land tenure legislation (Essential)
- Strong commercial acumen and stakeholder engagement (Essential)
- High capability in using databases and systems to manage information
- Ability to interact constructively across all levels and functions to deliver outcomes
- Strong eye for attention to detail and accuracy
- Belief in the value of team and collaboration
- High levels of self-motivation with demonstrated ability in resilience when managing diverse workloads and priorities to deliver quality and timely results
- Strong communication skills (written and verbal)
- Note: due to the global nature of the Fortescue business and essential interactions with colleagues and consultants operating in different time zones, occasional on-line meetings are required outside of standard business hours
- Note: occasional travel required.
