As the Lead Electrical Engineer at Fortescue Energy,  you will lead a team of talented engineers in the development and implementation of electrical systems for locomotives. You will be responsible for designing, testing, and optimizing electrical systems, ensuring they meet industry standards for safety, efficiency, and reliability. Key Responsibilities

 

 

 

  • Lead a team of electrical engineers in the design, development, and testing of electrical systems for locomotives.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate electrical systems with mechanical and software components.
  • Ensure compliance with industry regulations, safety standards, and quality requirements.
  • Provide technical expertise and guidance in resolving complex electrical engineering challenges.
  • Oversee the selection of components, materials, and suppliers for electrical systems.
  • Conduct thorough testing and validation of electrical systems to ensure optimal performance.
  • Participate in project planning, budgeting, and scheduling activities.
  • Mentor and coach junior engineers, fostering a culture of innovation and continuous improvement.
  • Participate in specific detail design reviews and evaluations including technical safety reviews of design, DFMEA, FFMEA, HAZID, HAZOP, LOPA, QRA, risk analysis.

 

Qualifications and Experience

 

 

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience working in the rail industry – essential
  • Bachelor’s degree of Electrical Engineering essential
  • Experience in systems engineering in a product development environment is essential.
  • Experience in overseeing EPC design activities and delivering large projects.
  • Experience in engineering, design and selection of electrical equipment, with emphasis on critical electrical components, and hazardous area classification methods and protection techniques. Some experience with owner/operator is preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience in a similar role, preferably in a large and complex project.
  • Knowledge of interpretation and review process of electrical systems in locomotives and rail applications is highly desirable.
  • General knowledge of data analysis and modelling of electrical network.
  • General understanding of existing and emerging technologies for energy storage systems, fuel cells, etc. preferred.
  • Demonstrated computer literacy in engineering software (e.g. PowerFactory, ETAP and PSCAD or similar).
  • Strong leadership skills and experience in leading direct and indirect reports.
  • Knowledge of Australian and international codes, standards and industry specifications
