Machine Inspector - Excavators & Drills
Our Opportunity
Work Location: Christmas Creek – Fortescue’s Christmas Creek mine is located on the traditional lands of the Nyiyaparli people.
Roster: 8D/6R FIFO ex Perth
Fortescue is seeking a Machine Inspector – Excavators & Drills to join the Mobile Maintenance team within the Diggers, Drills and Fabrication (DDF) division at our Christmas Creek operation. Reporting to the Coordinators, this role plays a vital part in improving fleet availability by identifying faults, raising quality notifications and supporting maintenance execution for our fleet.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct regular, planned inspections on excavator and drill fleets
- Identify faults and raise detailed notifications in SAP, including corrective tasks and prioritisation
- Work with operational teams to utilize available maintenance windows effectively (e.g. refuelling, shift change, lunch breaks)
- Review open work orders and assist fleet planners with data quality and backlog management
- Ensure priority defects are actioned early to prevent breakdowns (MTBF improvement focus)
- Collaborate with vendors for compliance tasks including slew ring measurements and working at heights
- Deliver clear and thorough handovers to the oncoming inspector
Qualifications and Experience
- Significant hands-on experience with heavy mobile equipment, specifically:
- Liebherr and Caterpillar Excavators
- Atlas Copco and Caterpillar Drills
- Experience in equipment inspections, fault identification and maintenance follow-up
- Understanding of SAP or similar CMMS systems
- Ability to work independently and effectively communicate with stakeholders across teams
- High attention to detail, solid time management, and strong commitment to safety
- Relevant mechanical trade qualification
- Current Australian C Class Driver’s Licence
- SAP, Microsoft Excel/Word competency
- Working at Heights ticket (desirable)
