Our Opportunity

 

Work Location: Solomon - Detrital Pilot Plant.   Fortescue’s Solomon site is located on the traditional lands of Eastern Guruma and Yindjibarndi people.

 

Roster: 8D6R Day Shift Only. 18 month Fixed Term contract 

 

An excellent opportunity for a role at our Detrital Pilot Plant for a hardworking Metallurgical Technician to further develop and expand their technical skillset with pilot scale metallurgical test work.

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Provide support to Process Engineers for the commissioning and operation of the Feed Preparation Plant: Wet Scrubbing, Crushing and Wet Screening.
  • Review and understand process plant flowsheets as well as sampling practices and principles
  • Operation of mobile equipment such as telehandler, Front End Loader, EWP.
  • Operation of large-scale Rotary Sample Dividers (4 x 205l & 8 x 205l) 
  • Accurate detailed recording and collation of sample/operational data during sample preparation and pilot plant operations.
  • Ensure adherence to Health & Safety standards whilst undertaking  site sampling, labelling and preparation of samples. 
  • Sample preparation for submission to laboratories onsite and externally which may include drying, moisture contents, screening, wet screening, settling tests, particle size distribution (PSD’s), and splitting of dry samples and slurry samples to get representative samples ready for assay.
  • Contribute to the pilot plant project through continuous improvement and innovation.

Qualifications and Experience

  • 5 years’ experience as a Metallurgical Technician in a minerals processing environment
  • Demonstratable experience in pilot plant operations 
  • Telehandler ticket / operating experience highly regarded 
  • Extensive knowledge of minerals processing and the plant and equipment used
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills
  • High level of accuracy when collecting, recording, and maintaining data and relevant documentation
  • Diploma in Laboratory Practices (highly regarded)
  • Ideally you will have formal qualifications in EWP, Working at Heights, Confined Space, Gantry/Overhead Crane, Isolations and Front End Loader
