Location: Iron Bridge - Fortescue Iron Bridge is located on the traditional lands of the Nyamal people.
Roster: 4D 3R FIFO ex Perth
We are seeking a Principal – Aboriginal Development professional to help shape, influence and drive our strategic approach to workforce participation, engagement, and cultural safety.
Reporting to the Manager People and Culture, this role provides strategic input into the First Nations workforce development strategy, provides the strategic framework and SME to the Aboriginal Development team, and partners closely with operational leaders to ensure meaningful outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander employees, communities, and the broader organisation
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement the Aboriginal and Torres Strait retention strategies for the operational area.
- Work closely with Traditional owners on projects specific to the project strategy.
- Provide collaborative SME leadership and direction to the Aboriginal Development team, fostering a positive and high-performing culture.
- Analyse workforce data to inform decision-making and support improved engagement and retention outcomes.
- Build strong relationships with operational leaders to influence culturally safe and inclusive practices.
- Work closely with the People team to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander employees.
- Partner with Recruitment to identify and remove barriers to Aboriginal employment pathways and ensure smooth transitions for VTEC trainees into operations.
- Oversee and support initiatives that promote cultural recognition and safety, including NAIDOC Week, Mabo Day and Reconciliation Week activities.
Qualifications and Experience
- Tertiary qualification (or progress toward) in Community, Aboriginal Studies, Human Resources or related field (desirable).
- 5+ years leadership experience with demonstrated ability to guide and support a team.
- Proven capability in building internal and external partnerships, including working with senior stakeholders and Traditional Custodian groups.
- Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- High-level data analysis skills to support evidence-based decision-making.
- Strong SME experience working with or supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait people and communities, with a passion for empowerment and meaningful engagement.
