Work Location: Perth, Western Australia.  Fortescue’s Perth office is located on the traditional lands of the Whadjuk people.

 

Roster:  Monday to Friday.

 

We’re seeking a Principal Capital Accounting professional to join our Finance team, based at the Perth office and reporting to the Manager Capital Accounting.

 

This full-time role offers a great opportunity to take on a leadership position that supports both the capital and lease accounting functions, with exposure to a diverse range of projects across the business. You’ll play a key role in overseeing month-end and reporting processes, coordinating fixed asset transactions, and providing expert accounting guidance on major capital and lease considerations.

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Oversee end of month processes for capital accounting and lease accounting, including reporting.
  • Coordinate fixed assets transactions to ensure compliance with accounting standards and timely processing, including capitalisations, correct asset allocation, depreciation and amortisations and asset disposals.
  • Support the capitalisation of major projects by identifying the assets being capitalised and determining the useful life of assets and components.
  • Coordinate the review of projects during budget and forecast cycles to determine if they are capital in nature.
  • Assess capital expenditure requests to determine if they are capital in nature.
  • Review the useful life of existing assets on an annual basis in compliance with accounting standard requirements.
  • Develop and prepare capital and lease reports for half year and year end reporting including segmental reporting and decarbonisation reporting.
  • Answer audit requests during interim, half year and end of financial year audits.
  • Consider the accounting implications for capital/lease transactions and provide guidance and support to the Group Financial Accounting team.
  • Review and maintain capital accounting policies and procedures ensuring compliance with relevant accounting standards, financial reporting and business requirements.
  • Review, maintain and develop training materials and deliver presentations to the business to continue building capacity and understanding in relation to processes surrounding capital accounting.

Qualifications and Experience

 

  • CPA or CA qualification.
  • SAP experience preferable.
  • 5 to 7 years previous experience required across either financial accounting, project accounting or management accounting, preferably in the resources industry.
  • Strong understanding of Accounting Standards.
  • Advance excel use.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy, with excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proven ability to build relationships and communicate effectively across technical and non-technical audiences.
  • The capacity to work well under pressure and manage competing deadlines, while demonstrating commitment to the Fortescue Values.
