Principal Category Specialist
Our Opportunity
Work Location: Fortescue’s Perth office is located on the traditional lands of the Whadjuk people.
Roster: Monday-Friday (Part Time 4 days per week considered)
As Principal Category Management you are someone who is passionate, honest, enthusiastic, and willing to step up to the challenge of being part of an innovative and achievement driven organisation.
The purpose of the role is to provide specialist procurement advice on a range of categories including explosives, NPI and Civil Works, to assist stakeholders to plan, develop, source and manage procurement arrangements to effectively meet organisational and business objectives. Additionally, the Principal Category Management will be responsible for providing leadership and direction to team members and working closely with the Category Manger to complete reporting requirements and develop strategic direction for the team.
Key Responsibilities
- Working closely with the Category Manager to deliver team objectives.
- Leading the execution to deliver enhanced commercial outcomes and innovative solutions.
- Guides, direct, and mentors team members in all end to end contract management duties.
- Supplier relationship management (SRM) - deliver value through effective management of strategic supplier relationships at a senior or Executive level. Actively articulates and demonstrates the value of SRM in the business.
- Category management and strategic sourcing – provide oversight to team members about the development of category strategies and effectively managing the end-to-end sourcing process.
- Negotiating – lead the development of negotiation strategies for complex, high risk and high value contracts, which drive value for Fortescue and our supplier partners.
- Ensure business objectives are met through effective governance, compliance management and the identification, assessment, and treatment of risk.
- Effective analysis and reporting of relevant data at all stages of the procurement lifecycle.
- Create and maintain credible and trusting relationships with internal stakeholders at a senior management level.
- Demonstrates intimate knowledge of how Fortescue’s assets operate and their needs, opportunities, and limitations. Is highly capable of creating commercial strategy and solutions fully optimised given this knowledge.
Qualifications and Experience
- Significant, demonstratable experience in a senior procurement role, ideally with at least 5 years’ experience in a mining role is desirable
- Strong drafting and negotiation skills.
- Strong understanding of contract terms and conditions and the ability to negotiate independently on terms e.g. liability, warranties, intellectual property
- Strong organisation skills
- Experience in leading a team is desirable
- Experience with SAP, Ivalua, Microsoft Word and Excel is desirable
- A degree or post graduate studies in law, MCIPS or other applicable qualification in the procurement or legal industry is required
