Our Opportunity
Work Location: Fortescue’s Perth office is located on the traditional lands of the Whadjuk people.
Roster: Monday-Friday. 12 month Fixed term contract.
The External Affairs team within Fortescue’s Global Sustainability and External Affairs Department works across the breadth of the business and externally, developing and implementing government advocacy, approval and stakeholder engagement strategies that deepen relationships and create the foundations for operational efficiency and growth in the areas of decarbonization, green energy transition and technology, green iron and mine development.
You will be responsible for planning, implementing and supporting the full range of government relations day-to-day activities at the direction of the Senior Manager External Affairs APAC. You will work closely with State Government agencies in WA, and Federally – in particular JTSI, EPWA, DevelopmentWA, DCCEEW, DISR, Net Zero Economy Agency and ARENA.
Key Responsibilities
- Work with External Affairs APAC team to provide high quality advice to Fortescue executives on strategies to progress regulatory approvals and policy development to support business objectives.
- Work with Director, Senior Strategic Adviser and Senior Manager to develop government and regulatory engagement strategies to achieve businesses objectives.
- Support Director and Senior Manager to gain senior executive approval for strategies and implement enterprise-wide initiatives.
- Prepare briefing materials for Fortescue leaders and executives on policy and regulatory issues and to support engagement with government.
- Coordinate meetings and advocacy engagement programs/ schedules for Fortescue leaders and for elected members travelling to visit Fortescue sites.
- Prepare and gain internal approvals for written documents to support government engagement. For example, letters, submissions or policy review programs, presentations to meetings and conferences, internal communications materials
- Work autonomously to contribute to the APAC External Affairs team managing day-to-day reactive government engagement to support the wider Fortescue business
- Manage and maintain record of engagement with Government representatives with Stakeholder Relationship Management System
Qualifications and Experience
- At least 5 years of experience in a similar role including experience in working in or with the key WA and Commonwealth government agencies and regulatory processes.
- Experience working to support business delivery of energy and/or major infrastructure projects or policy.
- Experience in working autonomously to independently progress streams of work at a high standard.
- Experience in contributing to strategy for government advocacy programs.
- A track record of achieving key outcomes from engagement with government policy makers
- Experience working with, presenting to, advising and gaining approval to proceed from executives.
- Thorough knowledge of Australian, State and Territory Government structures and processes.
- A tertiary qualification in a related discipline or commensurate experience.
