Are you a dynamic health and safety leader ready to drive impactful change?
Fortescue’s Group Health, Safety, and Risk team is seeking an experienced Principal Health & Safety professional to lead critical health and safety initiatives and embed best-in-class safety practices across metals and energy operations.
You’ll play a key role in leading group-wide health and safety initiatives, coaching leadership teams, and delivering assurance programs that keep our people safe and compliant. Your expertise will support continuous improvement of Fortescue’s Health and Safety Management System (HSMS) across all operational business units.
Key Responsibilities
- Support and drive continuous improvement initiatives within the Health and Safety Fatality Risk Program to proactively identify, manage, and mitigate critical risks across operations.
- Drive the development and implementation of documented systems and processes to ensure consistent management of health and safety risks across operations.
- Identify and lead targeted business wide health and safety improvements across operational areas.
- Embed health, safety, management systems and compliance through effective coaching and facilitation of business, project, and site leadership teams.
- Deliver and support a comprehensive second-line assurance program across all operational business units.
- Monitor Fortescue’s processes to ensure alignment with applicable health and safety legislation.
- Actively contribute to achieving the HSES strategic plan and advancing broader health and safety goals.
Qualifications and Experience
- Tertiary qualifications in Workplace Health and Safety (Post Graduate level preferred).
- Incident investigation qualifications (e.g., ICAM, TapRoot, Essential Factors).
- Lead Auditor Qualification in WHS Management Systems (preferred).
- 5-10 years of health and safety experience, including FIFO operational experience.
- Hands-on experience in high-risk industries such as construction, mining, logistics, manufacturing, or processing.
- Strong understanding of the WHS Act, relevant standards, and applicable codes of practice.
- Proven ability to develop, implement, and audit health and safety management systems.
