Our Opportunity
Work Location: Fortescue’s Perth office is located on the traditional lands of the Whadjuk Noongar people.
Position:
- 12 month fixed term contract
- Full time preferred, Part time considered (0.6FTE+)
Fortescue is committed to taking a leadership position on sustainability with ambitious emissions reduction targets and a firm stance on modern slavery.
This role will be responsible for progressing Fortescue’s nature-related ambition, action plans and disclosure, ensuring alignment with international standards and regulatory requirements.
The role reports to the Senior Manager, Sustainability but supports the broader sustainability team and engages directly with Environment, Mine planning and Water Management teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Developing nature-related content for a range of sustainability disclosures, including voluntary sustainability reporting, climate transition plans, CDP and S&P Global Corporate Sustainability Assessment.
- Preparing for and implementing disclosure against GRI Biodiversity and Mining Sector Standards.
- Supporting nature-related strategic planning, including input to strategic ambition, biodiversity targets including Board and Committee papers.
- Benchmarking of Fortescue’s nature-related ambition, planning and delivery against relevant peers.
- Developing natural capital accounting capability and progressing TNFD disclosure preparations.
- Mentoring and supporting junior members of the Sustainability team.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor or Masters degree in a relevant environmental or sustainability field.
- 15+ years post graduate experience.
- Significant experience in voluntary sustainability disclosure, particularly in the areas of nature, biodiversity and water management.
- Relevant knowledge and experience in sustainability standards including GRI and ISSB/ASSB.
- Relevant knowledge and experience with natural capital accounting methodologies and the TNFD framework.
- Experience in managing consultants.
- Ability to work across functions and disciplines with a high level of autonomy and empowerment.
- Excellent engagement skills across all business levels and areas, and with staff, contractors (including suppliers and consultants).
- Advanced written, interpersonal and communications skills.
- Ability to deliver work at a high quality within agreed timeframes, including stretch targets.
