Our Opportunity
Work Location: Perth Office

The Product Owner (PO) plays a pivotal role in translating business and functional requirements (BR/FRs) into clear delivery items, ensuring that the Fortex suite of products — spanning Fleet Management, Autonomous Haulage System (AHS) — is delivered safely, reliably, and in alignment with operational milestones.
The PO works closely with Product Managers (who own strategy and discovery), engineering teams, and operational stakeholders to define, prioritise, and deliver features that meet Fortescue’s standards for safety, compliance, and productivity. This role is execution-focused, ensuring requirements become working software and hardware in the field.
Key Responsibilities
- Translate business requirements into actionable deliverables, structuring themes, epics, and user stories with clear acceptance criteria
- Maintain and prioritise the delivery backlog, balancing new features, reliability improvements, and management of technical debt
- Embed safety, compliance, and non-functional requirements (availability, latency, interoperability) into all backlog items and acceptance criteria
- Align delivery with engineering teams, ensuring outputs meet requirements, safety standards, and operational readiness
- Manage cross-system dependencies, escalating to Product Managers for roadmap alignment where needed
- Support CI/CD delivery practices, ensuring stories meet the “definition of ready” and sprint commitments are well-defined
- Own release documentation and rollout materials, including release notes, workarounds, training, and readiness checklists
- Oversee site rollouts and cutovers, providing hypercare support and driving change management in partnership with training and readiness teams
- Capture and integrate feedback from incidents, defects, and operators, while monitoring operational metrics (e.g., SoC thresholds, success/failure rates, cycle times)
- Maintain safety and compliance governance, ensuring documentation supports audits, regulatory submissions, and operational readiness.
Qualifications and Experience
- 3–5 years’ experience as a Product Owner, Business Analyst, or similar role in complex, safety-critical or industrial systems
- Experience working with fleet management, mining automation, or large-scale operational technology
- Strong capability in backlog management and requirements translation using Jira, Confluence, or equivalent
- Familiarity with functional safety requirements, Mines Regulations, and OHS frameworks
- Understanding of mining production principles, fleet control drivers, and site operations
- Strong documentation and organisational skills; able to manage high volumes of functional requirements
- Excellent communication skills; able to bridge technical and operational stakeholders
- Exposure to CI/CD delivery pipelines and working with cross-functional engineering teams
- Knowledge of dispatch algorithm, data and reporting
- Experience with autonomous haulage operations or dispatch/mine control systems highly advantageous
- Knowledge of telemetry, system reliability (SLIs/SLOs), and post-incident problem management would be desirable
- Site rollout or operational readiness experience would be desirable.
