The Senior Business Analyst will serve as a strategic partner within Fortescue’s Decarbonisation Advisory division, leveraging advanced analytical and leadership skills to drive high-impact decarbonisation and energy transition projects. Reporting to the Manager of Decarb Advisory, this role involves leading the development of data-driven insights, optimisation strategies, and actionable solutions for both internal stakeholders and external clients. The focus will span operational productivity improvements, green energy transitions, and strategic decarbonisation initiatives, supporting external Fortescue partners and clients – with an initial focus in Morocco, there will be a requirement to support the project locally.
The role will demand independent critical thinking, advanced problem-solving abilities, and a proactive approach to stakeholder engagement. Success in this role requires a high level of technical expertise, strategic vision, and the ability to manage complex, cross-functional projects within tight deadlines.
This position will be best suited to an individual who excels when working in a fast-paced, challenging environment and most importantly who demonstrates a high-level of resilience and flexibility, especially a willingness to deal with ambiguity while providing well-framed perspectives to progress into more senior positions.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, refine, and oversee advanced analytical models to guide decarbonisation strategies and operational productivity enhancements
- Evaluate complex datasets to derive insights, trends, and recommendations for energy transition planning and green mining initiatives
- Prepare executive-level presentations and reports that articulate findings, insights, and strategic recommendations
- Guide and mentor junior analysts, fostering professional development and ensuring delivery of high-quality outputs
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align project goals and methodologies with organizational objectives
- Serve as a key point of contact for internal and external stakeholders, ensuring clear communication of project progress, challenges, and outcomes
- Partner with clients to understand their requirements, align deliverables with expectations, and ensure the successful implementation of decarbonisation solutions
- Manage multiple work objectives, ensuring timely delivery of milestones and adaptability to dynamic project requirements
- Advance the application of decarbonisation technologies, including renewable energy systems, operational productivity tools, and green equipment solutions
- Provide insights as output from existing Fortescue models, tools, systems and applications to contribute to overall renewables development and energy transition planning.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Finance, Engineering, Renewables, Information Science, Materials Processing (or similar)
- 7+ years in analytical or advisory roles within renewable energy, mining, or related industries
- 2+ years proven experience in strategic consulting or project management, particularly in decarbonisation and energy transition contexts
- Advanced proficiency in financial modelling, operational optimisation, and scenario analysis
- Expertise in stakeholder management across executive and technical teams
- Strong proficiency in data analysis tools (Excel, Python, PowerBI or similar)
- Coding skills are beneficial
- Strong computer competence (power point, basic project tools and development applications)
- Familiarity with renewable energy systems, operational productivity levers, and emerging decarbonisation technologies
- Ability to synthesise technical data into clear, actionable insights for diverse audiences
- Demonstrated ability to work autonomously to deliver multidisciplinary output in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment with shifting priorities and tight deadlines
- Strong problem-solving skills and a results-oriented mindset.
