Fortescue is seeking an experienced and forward-thinking Senior Category Specialist – Technology to provide strategic procurement leadership across our technology spend. In this role, you will partner closely with internal stakeholders to plan, source, negotiate, and manage procurement arrangements that support Fortescue’s broader business strategy and operational needs.

 

This position plays a critical role in optimising value, ensuring commercial robustness, and strengthening relationships with our strategic technology suppliers. It is ideally suited to a procurement professional who thrives in a dynamic environment, embraces continuous learning, and brings a collaborative, solutions-focused mindset.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Working proactively as part of a procurement team focused on providing exceptional customer service to provide commercial support to the business by confidently applying your skills and experience to deliver business outcomes.
  • Contract management - developing and applying processes, procedures, systems, and knowledge to ensure optimum commercial benefit and minimal commercial risk.
  • Supplier relationship management - deliver value through effective management of strategic supplier relationships.
  • Category management and strategic sourcing - build appropriate term category strategies that are aligned with Fortescue business objectives and manage the end-to-end sourcing process for allocated projects.
  • Negotiating – applying an effective process and an understanding of each party’s position to engage with suppliers on high risk and/or high value contracts.
  • Governance and risk management - ensure business objectives are met through effective governance, compliance management and the identification, assessment, and treatment of risk.
  • Analysis & reporting - effective analysis and reporting of relevant data at all stages of the procurement lifecycle.
  • Business partnering and commercial acumen - create and maintain credible and trusting relationships with internal stakeholders to ensure full alignment of procurement effort with business needs and opportunities.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Proven experience in technology procurement or category management, including software, SaaS and ICT service sourcing.

  • Strong commercial acumen with the ability to negotiate complex, high-value contracts and manage commercial risk.

  • Solid understanding of procurement governance, contract management and supplier performance frameworks.

  • Effective communicator with strong analytical skills and the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels.

  • Collaborative, solution-focused and adaptable, with the ability to self-manage and deliver in fast-paced environments.

  • Tertiary qualifications in business, commerce, law, ICT or similar; procurement certifications valued.
