Fortescue Hydrogen Systems, Product Development team, is presently seeking a Senior Control System Engineer to join our fast paced and high performing team to design cutting edge green hydrogen production systems.


In this role you will be working with a team of engineers in the Balance of Plant team developing design and implementing process controls systems for hydrogen test plants.


Scope will include from early concept engineering and all activities through to operations support.

Key Responsibilities

  • Development and delivery of control systems design and relevant documentation, such as control philosophies, functional specifications and cause and effects matrices
  • Oversee and partake in the development and delivery of control system software, including quality assurance/change approval of other developer’s control system software
  • Oversee and support the handling and historizing of process data streams from their source to the server
  • Attend and contribute to risk assessment workshops (HAZOP, LOPA, etc.)
  • Assist on-site technical staff with fault diagnosis and troubleshooting, including development of solutions to faults, and associated change management with implementation of solutions
  • Demonstrate a willingness to learn and share knowledge with colleagues, and the ability to collaborate effectively within a team

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in control systems, electrical engineering, or power systems is preferred
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively with a team of similarly disciplined professionals and provide support to the broader Fortescue Hydrogen Systems team
  • Extensive experience with process control systems, from design deliverables and code development through to commissioning, acceptance testing and operations support
  • Proficiency in industrial communication systems and protocols, with a preference for experience in Modbus TCP/IP, Modbus RTU, Ethernet/IP, Profibus and/or MQTT
  • Proficiency in PLC programming and SCADA development across a range of platforms, with a preference for experience in Scheider, Siemens, CODESYS, Citect SCADA and WinCC environments
  • Proficiency in basic networking requirements for operational technology networks
  • Formally trained in process safety (TÜV Rheinland, or similar) and experience in process safety risk assessment workshops (HAZOP, LOPA, SIL studies, etc.)
