Roster: Monday to Friday 

 

 

Reporting to the Principal Cost Controller, the Senior Cost Controller requires knowledge and experience across cost control, project controls, commercial and construction activities.

 

 

The role is responsible for the implementation of the cost management system and processes, development of cost control capabilities and the provision of budget, invoice and cost forecasting services and support.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Implement the cost management system, processes and procedures to ensure a consistent approach to project cost control, budget tracking, forecasting, cashflow and performance analysis
  • Management of the project cost and progress reporting process in order to provide consistent, accurate and timely reporting to the project management team including identification of any required actions to maintain approved baseline targets
  • Ownership, oversight, and hands-on participation with key cost functions including:
  • Apply the standard project Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) to ensure all systems, processes and reporting reflect the standard approach on the project
  • Monthly cost reporting and variance analysis
  • Manage Value of Work Done (VOWD), performance measurement, VOWD and commitment phasing, project resource forecast, change management, Estimate to Complete (ETC) and Estimate at Completion (EAC) forecast
  • Provide oversight on work packages ensuring costs are monitored/ reported in compliance with approved Project Controls Plan and invoices are validated
  • Progress & performance measurement by applying earned value management (EVM) tools and techniques to interpret data and provide timely insight and recommendations on project performance
  • Ensure that the cost forecasts reflect the latest project scope of work and project schedule
  • Support contracting and procurement team with project contracts, purchase requisition/ order and project payment certificates review
  • Review and verify invoices, establish accruals with supporting documentations before end of month and allocating expenses to cost centres and WBS.

Qualifications and Experience

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Commerce/ Finance
  • Project management or an internationally accredited project controls certification
  • Prior experience in a similar role preferably in the resources and renewable energy sector and complex construction and engineering environments through all phases of project development and execution
  • At least 8 years project control experience, preferably including international elements or interfaces on Major and or Mega Projects
  • Demonstrated experience establishing, managing and reporting the cost components of mid to large-scale capital projects, including managing a progress reporting methodology
  • Sound understanding of project control principle, processes and techniques including methods for transitioning from estimate to project budget, project cost and cash flow forecasting and analysis.
  • Analytical/technical skills with a practical approach to problem solving.
  • Demonstrated understanding of project services and project contracting/procurement disciplines and their relationships to cost engineering activities.
  • Highly effective communication skills and ability to develop and provide management reports at all levels, including presentations to management.
  • Experience and proficiency with Omega PIMS cost system (not necessary)
  • High level of computer skill with advanced Microsoft Excel, Word and MS Office package abilities.
