Senior Data Engineer
Our Opportunity
Work Location: Perth - Fortescue's Perth office is located on the traditional lands of the Whadjuk people of the Noongar nation.
Roster: Monday to Friday

The key mission of this role will be to assist in the development of the data foundation required to support and accelerate the delivery of AI systems and solutions in our mine to port supply chain. The right candidate will bring a deep understanding of data architecture, data engineering and how to enable AI/ML workflows, along with a drive for delivering outcomes and working software from concept design through to value.
Key Responsibilities
- Solve complex data problems to create data products that support experimental data analysis and prototyping to innovate and move fast, along with reliable production pipelines for AI systems and solutions.
- Build the data infrastructure and pipelines for the team.
- Integrate data from various sources using ETL or ELT processes.
- Create data models to organize and structure data for analysis and reporting.
- Implement processes to monitor data quality.
- Respect and advance governance and security principles.
- Optimize data storage and processing performance.
- Troubleshoot issues and ensure platform resilience.
- Collaborate with data analysts and scientists for data-driven insights.
- Play a significant role in enabling data-driven decision-making.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to understand business needs and data requirements.
- Evaluate and select appropriate data technologies and tools for specific data initiatives.
- Design data models, data integration strategies, and data storage solutions for efficient data management.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in STEM field.
- Experience (5+ years) working in data engineering role.
- Agile Development Methodologies.
- Experience with common tools used for CI/CD for DataOps.
- Expertise in SQL and data analysis and experience with at least one programming language (Python preferred).
- Expertise in developing and maintaining data models.
- Expertise with developing solutions on cloud computing services and infrastructure in the data and analytics space (AWS preferred).
- Conceptual knowledge of data and analytics, such as dimensional modeling, ETL, reporting tools, data governance, data warehousing, structured and unstructured data.
- Some exposure to machine learning, data science, computer vision, artificial intelligence, statistics, and/or applied mathematics.
- Developing ability to provide guidance to junior members.
- Demonstrated ability to elicit clear requirements from stakeholders.
