Senior Diamond Geologist
Our Opportunity
Work Location: Across all Fortescue Pilbara Operations
Roster: 8D/6R FIFO ex. Perth
The Senior Geologist is responsible for the management and delivery of a diverse range of diamond drilling programs across all our Pilbara Operations. This is a field-based role reporting to the Diamond Drilling Superintendent responsible for the ongoing support and development of a team of geoscience professionals.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain a strong field presence to maintain the visible leadership within the team
- Promoting safe work practices from contractors and FMG staff with the support of the drill safety team
- Mentor and support Project, Rig and Graduate Geologists through understanding of processes and workflows
- Plan, manage and execute diamond field and drilling activities
- Contribute and validate drilling schedules to provide timely data for stakeholders
- Coordinate the activities of the geological team and contractors in carrying out the daily work plan and ensure that their activities are consistently aligned with meeting operational targets
- Contribute to continuous improvement of the department by identifying and implementing opportunities for improvement
Qualifications and Experience
- Tertiary qualification in Geology
- Extensive experience in Resource Definition Geology in an equivalent role
- Experience in iron ore required. Additional experience in different commodities and industries highly regarded
- Solid understanding of QAQC processes and Diamond drilling
- Skilled in ArcGIS, Leapfrog and acQuire
- Experience with contractor management and project execution
- Class C manual WA driver’s licence
