The Resource Definition team at Fortescue is seeking an experienced Senior Hydrogeologist to join our drilling operations in the Eastern Hub. This role is pivotal in leading hydrogeological investigations, coordinating field activities, and ensuring data quality across multiple drilling projects.

 

You’ll provide technical expertise, mentoring, and operational leadership while supporting safe and efficient hydrogeological data collection. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated professional to contribute to Fortescue’s continued success in sustainable water management and resource development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and mentor the hydrogeology field team through technical and coordination challenges.
  • Collaborate with onsite departments to ensure seamless project execution.
  • Provide feedback to the Specialist Hydrogeologist to support effective scheduling and budgeting.
  • Plan and implement short-term project activities and oversee work instruction development.
  • Supervise hydrogeological fieldwork, including drilling, earthworks, and pump testing.
  • Liaise with contracting partners to ensure safe and productive work is carried out as per plan/schedule.
  • Oversee the collection, QA/QC, and storage of hydrogeological data.
  • Manage materials ordering, usage, and inventory control.
  • Perform data analysis, interpretation, and conceptualisation for reporting.
  • Promote a culture of zero harm, aligned with Fortescue’s safety values.
  • Conduct field interactions and PTOs.
  • Ensure safe work procedures are implemented for contractors and Fortescue personnel.
  • Investigate any incidents or corrective actions within the hydro drilling workspace.
  • Complete daily reporting, plods, and monthly contractor invoice reconciliation.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Tertiary qualification in Hydrogeology, Geology, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum five years’ field experience in hydrogeological projects.
  • Strong analytical, planning, and prioritisation skills.
  • Proven ability to interpret and analyse geological and hydrogeological data.
  • Demonstrated understanding of safety practices in remote field environments.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build strong working relationships.
  • Previous experience supervising contractors in mining or large-scale field operations.
