Our Opportunity
Work Location: Fortescue’s Perth CBD office located on the traditional lands of the Whadjuk people.
Roster: Monday to Friday (flexible hours, with childcare creche available). Availability for regular site visits is also required.

Joining Fortescue as a Senior Mechanical Engineer – Ore Processing & Materials Handling, you will be responsible for providing technical support for OPF (Ore Processing Facility) assets, including conveyors, screens, and crushers. In this role, you will be responsible for providing mechanical engineering expertise to support the design, implementation and maintenance of material handling technologies in the mining and associated heavy industry sectors.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide technical support to operations and projects teams, to ensure materials handling assets are designed and commissioned to the required standards, including but not limited to conveyors, screens, and crushers.
- Conduct root cause analysis (RCA) for recurring mechanical failures, providing recommendations for preventive actions and redesigns.
- Review mechanical package deliverables including datasheets, specifications, supply data requirements list, drawings, calculations and reports.
- Develop and review sound Engineering Standards and procedures to govern design and maintenance of materials handling plant.
- Ensure that all engineering work complies with safety, environmental, and quality standards as per company policies and regulatory requirements.
- Support asset management and planning by evaluating the condition of equipment and recommending necessary actions for optimisation and lifecycle improvements.
- Mentor and provide guidance to junior engineers and other team members, fostering knowledge transfer and continuous professional development.
Qualifications and Experience
- Tertiary qualifications in Mechanical or Reliability Engineering, or relevant experience in a similar role.
- Solid engineering experience with mining fixed plant or heavy industry. With preferred experience in non-process infrastructure and process plants in mining and resource projects.
- Strong knowledge and practical application of industry codes of practice, best practices, and design principles.
- Preferred background in design, auditing, project delivery, and operations.
- Understanding of conveyor mechanics.
- Experience in all project phases, from studies and detailed design to execution.
- Proficiency in software such as Helix, MS Office, and Navisworks.
