The Technical Services - Systems team at Fortescue is seeking a motivated and passionate data & integration specialist to act as a solution architect to support the on-going evolution of applications and services within the Technical Services group.

 

Our lean team is responsible for developing and maintaining a suite of in-house and off the shelf applications related to the creation, processing, storage and visualization of mining data, including drilling data, water management data, spatial models and mine schedules. 

 

This role is ideal for someone who has experience in a Data Architect role, but also a solid background in data and/or software engineering.  Our ideal candidate is a highly experienced data professional who loves to spend a portion of their time on technical/coding work. A successful candidate will also appreciate that the true value in any solution is its ability to add value to downstream users.

 

Your solutions will largely be developed on the AWS and Snowflake platforms.

Key Responsibilities

  • Understanding the Systems Team suite of inhouse and off the shelf products and their capabilities.
  • Understand how individual teams contribute to the Technical Services and mining value chain and apply this insight into designing relevant and fit for purpose integration and data warehousing solutions through this business context.
  • Documenting the current state and identifying inefficiencies and pain points for each team’s data workflow
  • Advice and development of business cases to introduce new technologies and patterns to improve the overall data architecture
  • Work with other subject matter experts within the Technical Services Systems team, to develop an overarching strategy around the use of Snowflake
  • Helping to implement the Snowflake strategy, communicate changes to the baseline current state and keep documentation up to date
  • Provide training in the use of any solutions to the broader Technical Services user group
  • Share in technical ownership of our products 

Qualifications and Experience

  • Experience with AWS data architectures and solutions
  • Experience in the main water management or environmental management domains would be highly regarded.
  • Experience in working with other mining/drilling datasets, especially familiarity with mining/drilling domain and processes and the value chain, will be also highly regarded.
  • Experience in designing and optimizing data warehouses and other data solutions using Snowflake.
  • Experience building solutions using OLAP/cube technologies
  • Experience in developing, communicating and deploying large architecture frameworks for interconnected technical teams.
  • Experience with time-series databases and aggregation.
  • Experience in implementation and development of large frameworks and strategies would be highly regarded
  • An understanding of current & emerging technologies and integration methodologies
  • Experience with Agile software development and methodologies 
  • Experience as a consultant or service provider would be highly valued
