Our Opportunity

 

Location: Iron Bridge - Fortescue’s Iron Bridge project is located on the traditional lands of the Nyamal people.

 

Roster: 4D3R FIFO from Perth or Bus in/out Port Hedland

 

Fortescue is seeking a Specialist Geotechnical & Dam Engineer to join our Iron Bridge Operations. This key role will act as the Responsible Tailings Facility Engineer (RTFE), ensuring the integrity, safety and performance of our Tailings Storage Facilities (TSF) and water storage dams. You will play a central part in implementing geotechnical processes, managing risk, and driving continuous improvement in line with the Fortescue Tailings Management Plan.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the Appointed RTFE for Iron Bridge Operations, overseeing the full TSF lifecycle.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, industry guidelines (e.g. GISTM, ANCOLD) and Fortescue standards.
  • Manage TSF design, construction, operation, governance, risk management and closure activities.
  • Lead stakeholder engagement with internal teams, Engineer of Record, and Independent Review Boards.
  • Review, update and endorse key TSF documentation, including monitoring reports, OMS manuals and Emergency Response Plans.
  • Provide training, guidance and technical leadership on geotechnical and dam safety practices.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Tertiary qualification in Geotechnical, Civil, Mining Engineering, Geology or related discipline.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in tailings management, preferably in a site-based role.
  • Strong knowledge of soil mechanics, geotechnical design and dam safety risk management.
  • Proficiency in geotechnical and mine planning software (e.g. Rocscience, Vulcan, Muk3D desirable).
  • Excellent project management, risk management, and stakeholder communication skills.
  • Chartered professional accreditation (AusIMM or Engineers Australia) highly regarded.
