Our Opportunity
Work Location: Solomon - Fortescue’s Solomon mine is located on the traditional lands of the Eastern Guruma and Yindjibarndi people.
Roster: 8D/6R FIFO ex Perth
The Specialist - Mining Systems is responsible for ensuring the effective governance, optimisation, and support of mining systems applications, including Autonomous Haulage Systems (AHS). This role will drive continuous improvement initiatives support site operations with mining technology and data and support CAPEX projects to enhance safety, efficiency, and operational value while fostering internal capability to reduce dependency on OEMs.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead a team of AHS Specialists to drive improvements and provide support.
- Act as the primary contact for Mining Operations to manage system issues, changes, and incident investigations.
- Identify opportunities for improvement and generate project charters.
- Ensure adherence to the Mining Systems Improvements framework and facilitate project updates.
- Provide governance and recommendations for Fleet Management Systems setup and configuration.
- Offer applications support, upskilling, and coaching to mining operations teams.
- Facilitate expertise and knowledge transfer to operational teams and leaders.
- Assist with system-related issues and incident investigations.
- Implement Fortescue’s Mining Systems support strategy to develop internal capabilities and reduce reliance on OEMs.
Qualifications and Experience
- A degree in Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field (desirable).
- Certifications in mining technology or operational technology systems (e.g., Fleet Management or AHS certifications).
- Relevant qualifications in project management or business improvement methodologies (e.g., Lean Six Sigma) are advantageous.
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in mining technology, operations, or a related field.
- Proven track record in investigating, analysing, and improving technology-driven operational processes.
- Experience with Autonomous Haulage Systems (AHS), Fleet Management Systems, or other mining technology platforms is highly desirable.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills to collaborate effectively with stakeholders across different functions.
- Proficient in managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
- Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills, with a focus on data-driven decision-making.
- Competency in project management and execution methodologies.
- Reporting and database management skills to effectively monitor and communicate outcomes.
- In-depth understanding of mining technology systems, including AHS and FMS, with a focus on system optimisation and governance.
- Familiarity with continuous improvement frameworks and CAPEX project planning.
- Strong knowledge of business analytics and data management concepts, including system reporting.
