Work Location: Perth – Fortescue’s Perth office is located on the traditional lands of the Whadjuk Noongar people. Ad hoc domestic and/or international travel may be required.

The Manager, Strategic Partnerships is responsible for supporting the development and execution of Fortescue’s partnership and commercialisation strategies to drive growth, innovation, and market expansion. Reporting to the Head of Commercial, this role manages key customer and partner relationships, identifies new business opportunities, and delivers commercial outcomes that align with Fortescue’s decarbonisation and industrial transformation objectives.

 

 

The position plays a critical role in executing partnership initiatives, including market research, opportunity assessment, proposal development, and contract negotiation and drafting, ensuring seamless collaboration between external partners and internal stakeholders. Working cross-functionally with Product, Commercial, and Operational teams, the Manager ensures that Fortescue’s partnership strategies are effectively translated into tangible business results and long-term value creation.

 

 

This role combines strong commercial acumen, stakeholder management, and market insight to expand Fortescue’s partnership base, enhance customer engagement, and contribute to the delivery of the company’s broader commercial and sustainability ambitions.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Support and implement Fortescue’s partnership and commercialisation strategies in alignment with corporate priorities and market growth objectives
  • Identify, evaluate, and pursue new business development and partnership opportunities across target industry sectors
  • Lead day-to-day commercial engagement with customers and partners, managing relationships, negotiations, and issue resolution
  • Develop, negotiate, and execute innovative commercial agreements and partnership contracts in collaboration with Legal, Finance, and senior commercial leaders
  • Manage the full sales and partnership lifecycle, from initial inquiry and proposal through contract execution and ongoing relationship management
  • Source and utilise market research and competitive analysis to identify trends, risks, and emerging opportunities that inform partnership and sales strategies
  • Develop compelling customer value propositions, proposals, and partnership presentations leveraging technical and commercial insights
  • Collaborate closely with Product, Commercial, and Operational teams to align partnerships with product development, go-to-market strategies, and cross-selling opportunities
  • Maintain structured stakeholder communication and provide accurate reporting on partnership pipeline, sales performance, and market activity to support executive decision-making
  • Represent Fortescue at customer engagements and industry events while upholding health, safety, ethical, and compliance standards across all partnership activities.

 

Qualifications and Experience

 

  • Degree qualified in Engineering, Law, Accounting or Business Management
  • 10+ years experience in a commercial or business development role, ideally within one or more of the Heavy Industry market sectors (Mining, Rail, Construction)
  • Significant demonstrable experience in complex stakeholder negotiations, including contract drafting.
  • Ability to develop and articulate market insights, and distil to strategic growth opportunities
  • Prior mergers and acquisition experience preferred, with a proven track record of identifying and securing deals
  • Proven track record of senior stakeholder engagement in China
  • Ability to demonstrate previous experience and success of commercial contract negotiation
  • A working knowledge of key customer segments and customer requirements for Heavy Industry
  • Able to convey customer requirements to Product Management and Operational teams
  • Fluency in Mandarin favoured.
