Christmas Creek, located on the traditional lands of the Nyiyaparli people.

 

The Structural Integrity 2IC (Leading Hand) plays a key role in supporting the Structural Integrity Supervisor with the safe and efficient execution of structural maintenance activities across the fixed plant. This role provides visible leadership to work crews, ensures adherence to work scopes and standards, and contributes to maintaining the structural integrity of Fortescue assets. The position requires a hands-on leader who can guide teams in the field while actively participating in day-to-day tasks.

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Provide visible, positive leadership that reinforces Fortescue’s values and strong safety culture.
  • Demonstrate and promote safe behaviours, ensuring all work is completed in line with HSE expectations and statutory requirements.
  • Lead and support field teams with the execution of structural maintenance and repair works across the fixed plant.
  • Actively contribute to all stages of the Work Management Process, including planning, scheduling, execution, and close-out.
  • Work collaboratively with Structural Engineering, Projects, and Shutdown teams to ensure effective coordination and delivery of scope.
  • Ensure all assigned tasks are completed within scope, to the required standard, and closed out with accurate and compliant documentation.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives relating to structural integrity, quality, and work practices.
  • Maintain strong communication with stakeholders to ensure safe, timely and reliable execution of works.
  • Provide mentoring and guidance to crew members to build capability and drive team engagement.

Qualifications and Experience

 

  • Trade qualification as a Boilermaker/Welder (essential).
  • Ability to weld in accordance with AS1554 welding procedures.
  • Previous leadership or leading-hand experience with the ability to engage, empower and motivate teams.
  • Proven commitment to safety, with a strong understanding of safe work practices and risk management principles.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Computer proficiency, including SAP, Microsoft Office Suite and digital reporting systems (essential).
  • Willingness to work hands-on in the field, providing direction and applying trade knowledge.
  • Experience in fixed plant structural maintenance or similar heavy industry environment (desirable).
