Work Location: Solomon - Fortescue’s Solomon mine is located on the traditional lands of the Eastern Guruma and Yindjibarndi people.
Roster: 8D/6R FIFO ex Perth (8-month secondment/fixed-term opportunity)
We are seeking a skilled and motivated Supervisor Hydraulic Barrier to manage and coordinate drilling programs across our Pilbara operations and resource development projects. You will be responsible for overseeing multi-rig operations across different drilling disciplines, ensuring that safety, productivity, and quality targets are met while aligning with Fortescue’s core values and operational excellence standards.
This is a Pilbara-based role offered on a FIFO basis, ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment with a strong safety culture.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate and supervise day-to-day activities of drilling contractors across multiple rigs and drilling types.
- Ensure execution of drilling programs in accordance with Fortescue’s standards, safety protocols, and environmental guidelines.
- Monitor quality, accuracy, and data integrity across multi disciplined drilling programs.
- Lead daily pre-starts, safety meetings, and field leaderships with drill crews and support teams.
- Liaise with geology, hydrogeology, heritage, dewatering and HSE teams to ensure all permits, clearances, and logistics are in place before drilling begins.
- Schedule and coordinate rig movements, consumables, equipment mobilisation, and site access in line with project timelines.
- Assist in the preparation of drilling scopes of work, contractor performance reviews, and service agreements.
- Champion Fortescue’s safety culture by leading with integrity and reinforcing visible safety leadership (VSL) in the field.
- Ensure all drilling activities meet or exceed company and regulatory HSE requirements.
- Support incident investigations, field hazard assessments, and risk mitigation measures.
- Track daily drilling productivity, costs, and progress against budget and KPIs.
- Maintain accurate documentation, including shift reports, drilling logs, and cost records.
Qualifications and Experience
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in exploration, construction or resource drilling, including field-based supervisory or coordination roles.
- Demonstrated experience in RC, diamond, and hydro/geotechnical drilling operations.
- Strong understanding of drilling logistics, sampling QA/QC, and contractor management.
- Excellent organisational and interpersonal skills, with the ability to lead in a team environment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office or other project management software is preferred.
- Current WA Manual Driver’s Licence and valid HRWL/Tickets (e.g., 4WD, First Aid, Standard 11 or equivalent).
- Cert IV in Drilling Operations, OH&S, Geology, or related field highly regarded.
